Whether you're working with Sharleen one-on-one or as part of a team, each session is purposeful and focused on developing specific mental skill(s) —what Sharleen calls training in the "mind gym." Sessions begin with a brief check-in to support overall well-being and ensure psychological safety. Together, you’ll review the mental skill targeted for that session and then engage in guided activities designed to build that skill. Throughout the session, Sharleen monitors your engagement and progress, adapting as needed. Every session ends with time to reflect, share feedback, and identify next steps for continued growth. Individuals are encouraged to bring notebooks to write down exercises, responses to questions, and any notes that they want to remember from the sessions.

Investing in a mental skills assessment before beginning training provides a clear starting point and ensures your program is personalized and purposeful. A mental skills assessment determines your mental strengths and areas for development that affect how you train, compete, and recover. The results help Sharleen tailor your training to your unique profile—highlighting what’s already working for you and identifying areas where focused development can enhance your performance. This approach saves time, builds confidence, and increases the effectiveness of your mental performance training from the very first session.
The assessment itself is completed online and takes less than 15 minutes to finish, making it an efficient and valuable first step in your training journey.

For one-on-one sessions and monthly programs, all learning materials—such as handouts, audio files, slide presentations, app suggestions, and video resources—are included in the session/program fee.
For team or group sessions (including workshops for parents), there will be an additional charges for learning materials provided. To help manage costs, individuals are encouraged to bring a notebook and use their phones to record audio or take photos of visual materials during the session whenever appropriate.

As a Certified Mental Performance Consultant, Sharleen follows professional ethics and standards that include keeping secure records of client sessions. These notes help her track progress, document completed activities, and inform her approach to supporting your mental skill development. All records are password protected and comply with HIPAA requirements.
Adult clients may request access to these notes at any time. For clients under the age of 18, sharing notes involves a discussion with both the client and their legal guardian to ensure confidentiality and consent are respected.
-
When providing mental skills training to athletes under the age of 18, Sharleen adheres to the highest ethical standards to ensure a safe, respectful, and developmentally appropriate environment. Before any services begin, informed consent is obtained from a parent or legal guardian, and assent is secured from the athlete. This ensures that both the youth and their guardian understand the purpose of the training, the process involved, and the boundaries of confidentiality. While sessions are private, confidentiality is not absolute—any concerns related to safety or harm are handled with transparency and care, and these limits are clearly communicated at the outset. Sharleen uses communication and activities that are appropriate for the athlete’s age and developmental stage, ensuring that the athlete can meaningfully engage in the training process. Parents may receive general updates or guidance to help support their child’s progress, but only in ways that respect the athlete’s comfort and privacy. All sessions follow Safe Sport guidelines and the Rule of Two, which means that a second adult is present or aware of the interaction to maintain a professional and secure setting, whether the session is in person or online.
-
The Rule of Two is a key principle in Canadian sport safety designed to protect athletes—especially minors—and those supporting them. It ensures that all interactions between a practitioner and an athlete are open, observable, and justifiable.
In line with this rule, Sharleen follows the Responsible Coaching Movement standards by ensuring that she is never alone in an unsupervised setting with a minor athlete. This means:
Sessions with youth athletes are held in settings where another screened adult (e.g., parent, coach, or staff member) is present or nearby.
For virtual sessions, a parent or guardian is notified and may be present or nearby.
Electronic communication is transparent and includes a second adult when appropriate.
These practices are in place to create a safe and professional environment, protect the wellbeing of all participants, and support ethical service delivery.
